- Asset classes are more efficient than indexes- Asset classes, groups of securities that have common characteristics, are more efficient tools and better diversifiers than indexes. Asset classes are not artificially made up. Most indexes were artificially created because someone wanted their name on something.
- Holistic portfolio design is the most efficient solution- You always need to consider your whole situation when designing an investment strategy. Then you need to pick the right investment solutions that will allow you to structure an appropriately designed portfolio that meets your needs.
- Discipline- You need to have a defined investment policy that serves as a guide in executing your strategy. This helps maintain the discipline needed to achieve your goals in light of market gyrations and the continuous assault on your senses by the financial news media. Discipline will help keep you strategically focused on rebalancing and risk tolerance issues while allowing you to tactically implement your plan in a cost effective manner.
